Help Me Please Matching Motor

So i went thru my car today. All the fenders and hood and doors have the matching vin #.

Now what i need to know is does the motor have a # on it for the 1987 GTA trans am that would match. If so could some one tell me where it would be.

And if you could help me with the trans and diff would like to know if they all so have # and where.

Thanks

Re: Matching Motor

I wouldn't care if it was the original engine or not. As you said... out with the old and in with the new.

Re: Matching Motor

The engine has the last four digits of the vin stamped on it I have been told. I have also seen where some will buy a block with no numbers and put the proper numbers on it, so even that is no guarantee you have the original engine. The transmission and rear end only have a part number and date code on them as far as I know.

Re: Matching Motor

Yes the motor and trans have your VIN stamped into them.
On the pass side front of the block there is a flat pad that look like this.

Sorry I cant find a good pic of one on the trans but It can be seen while in the car.
