K. Btw, there is a company(and the name slips my mind, like most things do these dayz, lol) that Stacey David on GearzTv was talking about. They will take any wheel, and reproduce it to any specs you want. hth

Re: NEW 17 inch GTA Wheels

Our best bet would be having classic industries make them since they are also remaking the ronal r15s

Re: NEW 17 inch GTA Wheels

I'd take a set in 17 or 18 but they'd have to be at a decent price. When they originally brought this up years ago, hawks was talkin billet and a 1500 dollar price tag. They need to be cheaper then that. I personally would stick with my stock rims unless the new rims were under 1k.

Re: NEW 17 inch GTA Wheels

They are already made by someone else, just recently. They are called ESM 002 They are one piece cast aluminum. there is a cheaper, inferior version called privat remembers, but these are much nicer, with the stepped lip and proper deep dish. Read my whole explanation under the pictures before buying.

I would put a firebird medallion in the middle, or a ws6 medallion, and paint the center bolt black, like the gta wheels have.

17x8.5", and 17x10". I recently found them. I am gonna get a set myself. Since you can still get Goodyear ZR45 Gatorback tires in 245 45 17, those are the tires I will use. With that tire in production since 1984, I can't imagine it will last much longer, and new gatorbacks look particularly good on a gta.

These wheels are actually BBS RS replicas, 3 piece style. They look like the bbs wheels the gta wheels were copying in the first place. They look good, and I am sure they are at least as good in quality as the 16" gta chinese knock off wheels that classic industries and year one are selling with the GM Restoration Parts logo next to the made in china label.

The website is
file:///E:/My%20Documents/Car/WHEELS/BBS%20RS%20Replica%20ESM%20002.htm

[SIZE="3"]Wheel Specification(s):

Approximate Wheel Weights: 17x8.5 = 21lbs. / 17x10.0 = 22lbs.

Size Bolt Pattern Offset Center Bore Lip Size MSRP (USD) In Stock

17x8.5 5x120 20 72.6 3.0" $245/wheel Yes

17x10.0 5x120 15 72.6 4.0" $295/wheel Yes

They are not made for muscle cars, so they have 5 x 120mm bolt pattern, which is 0.65mm different from ours. But, you can use special lugnuts with a slightly adjustable offset conical seat, to make up the difference. They're called PCD variation lug nuts. http://www.tulipcitywheels.com/tcwst..._detail&p=1730

With 0.65mm on the whole 5 lugs, that is only really about 0.325mm per lug, which is not much distance. You use a hubcentric ring to center the wheel. The lugs only hold the wheel to the brake disk.

Some people don't even use the special lug nuts, because the size is so close, but that is not good. That tweeks the lugs laterally and they are not built for that. So, if you use these, get the proper PCD variation nuts, and it is perfectly safe if they are torqued properly. The nut essentially has it's own countersink for the wheel, and it moves the bolt hole to the location of the stud. But it must be used with the proper hubcentric ring, which the wheel company provides with the wheels. the wheel hubs on these aftermarket wheels are 72.6, and the hubs on the car are 70.3, so you should be able to use some 72.6mm outer/70.3mm inner hubcentric rings to make sure your wheels are centered, before bolting on the special bolts. I am not an expert about aftermarket wheels, but I have been thinking of this for a long time, and I am reasonably sure this is ok. If you don't like it, you could have the wheels re-drilled. But I doubt that will be as precise as the method I said above.

I used to think about using real bbs rs wheels, but those are several thousand for a good set, and impossible to find, and I also thought of using 17" bmw mesh wheels, but they don't have the stepped outer rim that looks so good. (The BMW wheels are made in germany by bbs, however, and that is not to be taken lightly, but on the other hand, they are all used, and used hard by now, so how straight can they be at this point? A GTA really needs perfectly straight and true wheels to avoid being a vibration trap at over 55mph)

That is why I think this option is a good one. I read about the company and they seem to be above board. they are a very small concern, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy some of these if I were you. It could be that they only made one run of them and that will be it. I will probably buy 5 of the 17x8.5", in case one of them gets damaged someday, I have a spare. They were helpful to me on their email about the fitment to our cars, too. The may be able to re-drill the countersinks in the wheels if you are dead set against the variable lug nuts idea. Even though this is a small outfit, they are the only ones who got off their arses and made something good, and I would rather buy from someone like this than a giant like classic industries or year one. The thing is, there are almost no 17" wheels that look right on these cars. And I can tell you, that these particular wheels, look SO RIGHT. I have seen them on a 91 green gta in a magazine, back in 1990, and that car was off the hook. I think it was a twin turbo, or an Independent Rear Susp. car that gm was messing with at the time.

Now, how to make the car ride acceptably with wheels this big is another story. But, I have plans for that too.
