Delco Touch Control Radios

How common were they in the GTA's Trans Ams or Fieros?
Model number could be 16050362 16054097 or 16064144

Re: Delco Touch Control Radios

I believe the one in the picture was the standard radio in the GTA.

Re: Delco Touch Control Radios

Definately NOT standard in 87 gta, or in 85-87 ta. This was the most expensive optional radio in 85-87, with a additional cost of $500! In 87, gta's didn't have all options standard, so they could have had lesser radios. Many had radios somewhat similar to this, but instead of buttons on left, they had 2 knobs to serve those same functions, and everything on the right was identical. They had the same feature set, but not the "touch control" feature. The knobs are easier to use without looking down at the radio. But of course, the touch controls add lots of tiny buttons, and even some little green lights, and therefore add to the star trek/knight rider theme that they were going for with these cars. Especially if you had the digital dash. (which then triggered the little pushbuttons for the a/c)

I just got an 87 gta, and I have the window sticker. I have this radio, but this was an added option. My car even had a group of options, which specified a different optional radio. But, with those option groups, they sometimes allowed you to upgrade to an even higher radio if you paid the difference.

By 91, this radio was long gone. I am not sure what year it left, but I would guess 87 was the last year. In 88, of course, the gta got the newer pushbutton radio with the steering wheel controls. That radio had the station display on the left instead of the right. By 88, most all options were standard in gta's, so they all had that newer radio.

Star Trek/ Knight Rider theme? Pontiac was going for a European look with the GTA with the mono paint, BBS style wheels and paddle mirrors.
