Re: Wheels question

I have the gold rims on my car and I hate them but everyone else loves them. I would sell or trade mine for black ones anyday. I only keep them on because people say they look great on the flame red mettalic and make the gold emblems pop out. I would love the black or black rims with my paint color. Anyone wanna trade a set of gold for black or buy my gols ones??

Re: Wheels question

Stock original restoration is nice, and mine is very original. But here in SoCal guys like Foose do damn nice re-design work too and it does make a more personal uique statement gere where your car is soi much of your image. I guarantee that they would not use the stock wheels, but perhaps some tribute to the stock wheel look, like spoke-look wheels (NOT gold) but perhaps in a 17 inch front and 18 inch rear with those skinny-sidewall low-profile tires. I'm not that into the low-profile tire look, but it definitely DOES make your car look like it's a 24 years newer design and if you choose carefully they actually handle nicely if you get light wheels. If I was changing the car, I'd probably remove the horizontal molding from the middle of the doors too.

If you paint stock wheels, have them powder-coated instead of paint, it lasts a lot longer and a few years later looks much better.

Option #2 would be the best bet in my book.... or buy used and refinish. But I would not ruin the original wheels just to have black ones.... IMHO only.

As somewhat of a purist, I suppose.... not to mention the original purchaser of a new GTA that had Ronal R9s on it: the cars just don't look right without the gold PW7 wheels on there. The GTA option was in part about a "look", and to me, the wheels tied it all together.

But it's your car, so it's really your choice.
Yes..The gold rims are the "signature" of the GTA

At first, when I purchased my GTA, I wanted different rims...But after awhile, they kinda grew on me and now I'm glad I didn't

Re: Wheels question

Yeah. again, I am NOT a GTA fan specifically. My 86TA had the monochrome black TA look without the gold rims. GTAs copied my look.. and then made it gaudy with gold BMW style rims Everything else they did with the car I liked since it had better performance. But again, I took off my tape and made a monochrome look on my 86 TA... tinted windows and farrari style chrome slash cut exhaust. I was told by GN drivers I had the baddest looking F body in the state. I havent got my glass and pipes done, but that is coming. It will look better that I promise.

Re: Wheels question

Here is what my 86 TA looked like, except i had tinted windows and white letter tires. This is NOT my old car..but close...
Now you know the look I am looking for... but silver wheels would look stupid with gold badges and interior!
