Driver info center.

the bottom half of the info center smokes when i plug it into the harness for some reason and no display, any ideas? thanks.

Well the bottom one is the odometer. There is just one chip that's in there, I don't understand how it would be smoking. The only thing I can picture smoking would be if the light bulb behind the screen is messed up and could be melting the plastic or something.

The surgeon general advises against smoking your electronic odometer.

You might want to find out what the problem is before you cook it for good. Wiring diagram attached.

The bottom one is for the mileage indicator. The top one is the message center. Both, though they tie into the circuit, are seperate units.

As they are circuit boards, it's possible something failed on the circuit board itself. Any smoke on a circuit board is usually not good and has a great chance of already failed.

Both the mileage section and the message center are easily replaced units. The mileage section main board contains a removable memory chip that can be removed and installed on another if it the main board fails. Thus you can keep current mileage if the main board circuit failed.

thanks for the info, it was just didnt show anything on screen but didnt smoke until i changed vss because speedo didnt register.

you've probably got a fried resistor or something else. You need to pull the display out and look behind at the circuit board.
