Leather removal

No, I'm not crazy...I need to take the leather off my steering wheel. The top 1/3 of the wheel has been removed, and it's kind of funny, but underneath, the wheel is the exact same color as the car. So, I think it would be a unique personalization thing that would look good having the wheel match...at least until I can get the leather wheel re-covered.

So, how can I get the leather off without taking the wheel out of the car?

Uhh... Carefully use a razor blade to cut the stitches would be my guess.

I know that seems the obvious answer...but it's the center section I'm concerned about. I don't want to get 90% of the leather off only to find I have to remove the wheel to get it off the back.
