Hey guyz and ladies I got some Mass Air Flow Cleaner Spray at Oreilys and I was wondering if anyone has used these cleaning sprays on their MAF???? The directions are just spray on and it dries rite away and cleans all the dust off the hot wire and housing, and claims a clean MAF will make a huge diffrence in performance which i agree but ive never tried cleaning the MAF so any advice would help huge!!!! thanxz

Re: MAF Cleaning

I've used it plenty of times on many different cars, just follow the directions. Don't count on it doing too much, but it might help a little.

Re: MAF Cleaning

I've used it too. Not much difference. There's a program in the computer to heat the element to burn off any dirt and debris anyway.

Re: MAF Cleaning

It's a factory program set by GM from what I'm told. It's programmed into the ECM that after so many miles after the engine is shut down the computer heats the element. Self cleaning process. Kind of like doing the self clean on your oven except you don't have to do it. The car is already programmed to do it. I was told by a wise old mechanic that it's just another snake oil for cars.

Re: MAF Cleaning

Jack is correct, after the engine runs for so long once you turn it off it runs through whats called a "burn off" and heats the element to burn off anything on it. This is why I said do not expect much from it.

Re: MAF Cleaning

If you really want to put the can to good use. I'd suggest that you remove the runners from the plenum and intake and clean the insides with it. You'll notice that GM has a groove cut into the inside of the runners to "swirl" or "smooth" the air flow to the intake. You'll notice a smoother idle. You'll remove over 20 years of carbon build up in those grooves with that can. It's a glorified carb cleaner. Hope budfreak1 and I helped.
