Gary, would you be able to check one of my Notchback VINs that I couldn't get RPOs from my local dealership? If so, I'll PM you the VIN. At your convenience of course.

Hi Jeremy:

No problem. I'd be happy to give a try. I have some parts to pick up this Friday so, I can try it then.

They also told me that the new system goes back to 1980 and they have prior years on microfiche. Very puzzling for them as the Assistant Parts Manager said they have never had this happen. However, they did give me a number for Vintage Vehicle Services (same as Pontiac Historical?) at 1-888-467-6853, which for a fee, may be able to help.

So, I'm wondering if this lack of RPO data is something peculiar to notchback GTAs.

Gary.
Apparently not.... as my red GTA isn't a Notchback car.

Hmmmmmmm I don't know what to say. As I mentioned, at the dealership they were very surprised that the cars didn't come up. I can't see the database for Canadian dealerships as being any different from the American database as I needed a part for my 1984 Firebird and they could source it out of Michigan. So....

Anyway, if Jeremy and Kuul want me to try their cars, I'm happy to do so.

Sorry I couldn't help you out Frankie. A mystery!!

Anyway, hope you're enjoying the day and the kudos and honors you so rightly deserve. Also, I like the dinocopter too.

Gary.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

No sweat, Gary.... My place here wasn't really surprised, as they told me they have trouble with most requests older than 1990 models.

It's not a big deal to me as I have both SPI labels for my cars. I appreciate the effort on my behalf and the kind words about the site.

One last thing.... "CARS" RULES!

Re: try to find my RPO codes

For some reason, the RPO sticker for my GTA was relocated inside the owner's manual. To make sure I don't lose it and have quick access to the codes, I took a digital picture of the RPO sticker. The JPG file was then copied to my PC. As a further backup, I emailed a copy to my dad, he's the original owner.

Now, I can print a copy whenever I want.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

I can't find the RPO Sticker for my car. The last owner must have had it because they gave me a photocopy of it, but they cannot tell me where the sticker is now

If you want a challenge Gary, you can try running my VIN. I bet you $20 you won't get anything on my 1990 GTA

Re: try to find my RPO codes

I am very puzzled!! I have tried to get the rpo list for three cars now - two for Frankie and one for kuul and no luck!!!! Frankie's vins show up as valid but no rpo and Kuul's vin doesn't show up at all. The local parts guys phoned all around GM in North America and couldn't come up with anything! The database supposedly goes back to 1980.

One suggestion from the local parts counter is that if the car left GM and went to SLP, etc. for mods then the rpo sheet was never recorded - don't know about that? Maybe Frankie or someone else does.

Be that as it may, I'm currently at work but when I get home, I'll list my rpo codes for my 1988 GTA as well as for my 1989 Firebird. Hopefully that fills in the blanks for some.

Sorry about the dismal result so far.

Gary.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

It's alright Gary. I know it is a valid vin, because Ozzy got me a Carfax on my car. But, at least I know it is a real GTA, because it said so on the Carfax. I guess that is the only RPO that I cared about.lol

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Thanks for the additions Frankie (in the interests of space, I didn't copy the post over).

As those items in my list of codes showed up as not available, I didn't give them any thought other than they may have had to do with the LB9/5-speed combo. Anyway, if other's don't have their rpo sheets, hopefully that list, plus looking at their cars and with the other list from this site, may help them with putting something together.

Best regards,

Gary.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Just to also follow up, I certainly don't mind running your vin's and the guys at the GM parts counter don't seem to mind (although if all 2000+ members ask, that may be a problem (LOL)).

I'm really curious as to why some cars pass through and others don't.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Hey everyone:

Well, all I can say is Dang, Dang and double Dang. I'm 1 for 6 (including my GTA). So, I've had no luck with any GTA's. I'm getting valid VIN's but no rpo's. I was told that GM Canada started keeping rpo data quite some time before GM USA and that may explain some of it. I have had no problem with my "Canadian" cars - even though they are made in Van Nuys, CA. Go figure. Anyway, the parts guys here in Chilliwack are great and they're going to look into it for me next week as they have time. Fingers crossed, they may find something.

Also, Frankie...would it be worthwhile to do a photolibrary of rpo codes? Then people may be able to construct their own SPID's. Just a thought. I don't mind starting it off as my car is off the road for the winter and I need to do some work on it anyway.

Let me know.

Gary.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

My rpo sticker is missing too....I went to my pontiac Dealer and they said "if" was a1990 they could get the numbers for me but they don't have any info on my 89 GTA, but interestingly when I wanted them to do the seatbelt recall on my car they said that my vin number was not in the system as far as needing it done, I don't understand why they won't do the seat belt repair, I have a seat belt that is unoperative. I wish I could find out what dealership my car came from then they would have some record of maintainence. I'll try that number that GTA 50 "GARY" talked about thanks

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Hello

I have wondered if my car was sent to Canada then sent back to U.S. because when I called GM the gave me a Canada number then they gave me Pontiac Historical services.... Just wondering if sometime you could run my Vin to make sure it did not come back from Canada since the carfax I got only went back about 5 years is all Much thanks - PAUL Vin 1GFW2185KL263678

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Hi Guys:

I've run two more VINs and still no luck. I am very puzzled as are the guys at the GM dealership. We are 1 for 9 , and I don't know why. I don't mind trying for others and certainly the dealership doesn't mind. When they have some time, they'll try to get an answer as to why the GTAs don't show up.

Has anybody tried Vintage Services (Canadian version of Pontiac Historic)?

Best regards,

Gary.
