What parts are in it?

Im trying to find out more about my 1990 GTA, specifically about what major parts are in it, and hoping I can find that out here. The car as far as i know is stock.

What i know for sure:
Year: 1990
Engine: 305 TPI LB9
Trans: 4 speed auto
VIN: 1G2FW23F3LL213651

I was able to use the VIN to find out the engine model, but thats about all.

What i want to find out are:
- what heads does it have (081?)
- transmission (700R4?)
- rear diff (POSI 2.73?)

Is there anyway to find this out without getting under the car and looking for stamped part numbers?

Thank you

If you find your RPO codes, that should give you the tranny (which should be a 700R4 if its an auto) and the rear end numbers. As far as the heads, I am not sure on that one, but I've always wondered that my self.

GTA Year: 1990
GTA Engine: 350 TPI Automatic
Re: What parts are in it?

If its the auto it should be a 700R with a 3.23 disc brake limited slip, if it's a manual it will be a T5 with a 3.42 limited slip, possibly even a 3.73...

Re: What parts are in it?

1BadGTA: I put in my VIN and it said it has data on it... Think I'll search around a bit more before I plunk down the $5.

GTABill: How can I find out what the RPO codes are? Would that be documentation from the dealership? Unfortunately I bought the car second-hand and all I got is the manual.

Kevs87ta: I think you are right that the tranny is probably the 700R4. As far as the rear-diff, my rear brakes are drum, not disc. Does this mean that it's a crappy 2.73? Acceleration-wise I can only guess that's the case.

Thanks all!

Re: What parts are in it?

you can get the list of RPO codes for your car off the Service Parts Identification (SPI) label which should be locate inside the glove box.

You can then compare your RPO codes to the descriptions and production figures contained here:

Re: What parts are in it?

I forgot all about the SPI label! Thanks for the refresher. I was able to use the RPO page to decode most of what was on the SPI label.
