I've had cars that have also had the same starting problem and it turned out to be the mass airflow sensor being bad. My mechanic removed the mass airflow sensor on my car and tried to start it. At that point it did start but ran badly. Basically that's the indication the mass airflow sensor is causing the issue. From what my mechanic said, the bad mass airflow sensor was causing too much fuel to dump into the engine.
