1989 GTA Notchback - Several Exist

According to PHS' documentation, which Frankie, from GTA Source Page, has stated it exists, there was 1 - 1989 GTA with the Notchback option. This 1 of 1 is apparently a domestic 1989 GTA with the Notchback option. Very little information is currently known about this specific 1989 GTA Notchback that remained in the US.

For those not aware, the Notchback was considered a one year only (1988) option on the GTA only. The point of this thread is that there was several 1989 GTAs with the Notchback option.

After some contacts from some helpful people, I come to find that there was several 1989 GTAs with the Notchback option - specifically Canadian exports. Just as interestingly, there are some with the 350/T-Top combo - which we know existed on other 1989 GTAs.

As proof, I've got a copy of an invoice, from GM, showing a 1989 GTA with the Notchback option, CC1 T-Tops and the L98 350.

According to the Pontiac Car Distribution Bulletin, Pontiac was canceling all GTAs with the Notchback option, effective August 30, 1988, and the bulletin goes on to state that no 1989 GTAs with the Notchback option would be built:

Here's the GM invoice for one of the several 1989 GTAs with the Notchback option. Notice the ship date is 10/3/1988 - after the Pontiac Car Distribution Bulletin:

To have a 1989 Notchback with the 350 and factory T-Tops would be pretty neat - especially since there was apparently only a few built in 1989.

Those dang Canadians! Great work, Jeremy!

For rarity's sake, I'd take any of those '89 AA8 cars. We'd have to immediately rank those among the "pinnacle" GTAs.

My poor old '88 feels so unloved now.... *sniff, sniff*

I thought 1989 T-top 350s were never in question. I thought it was *1988* that was not an option for that.

You're in luck then because there's plenty more coupes than Notchbacks :)

The T-Top and 350 is not the center of this. The center of this is that Pontiac released a Car Distribution Bulletin that stated no 1989 GTA Notchbacks would be built, and that document was dated August 30, 1988. However, over a month later, as the invoice shows, 1989 GTA Notchbacks (albeit Canadian) were being built and shipped.

I only mentioned the T-Top and 350 because it would be neat to have a Notchback with the 350 and T-Tops. Unless you found a 1988 GTA Notchback 350 with aftermarket T-Tops, or a 1989 GTA Canadian Notchback with the 350 and T-Tops, you wouldn't be getting a GTA Notchback with the 350 and T-Tops.

I still have yet to see an 88 with 350 and factory T-tops. Canadian or domestic.

There was apparently 94 Canadian 1988 GTA Notchbacks, according to a letter from Pontiac. 624 1988 GTA Notchbacks were domestic. This equals 718 1988 GTA Notchbacks, which Pontiac claims in two seperate letters.

I've only seen records for 84 of those 94 Canadian 1988 GTA Notchbacks, and none of those have the 350 and factory T-Tops. I don't know where the records are for the remaining 10 and what combo they possible could have.
