I was wondering what other GTA`s are doing on the 1\4 mile. My best time was a 14.96. I have a 1988 GTA 5.7L with TPI, TH-700R4 with shift kit. Also I have SLP Cold Air Induction, and a Flowmaster muffler. And to top all of that off, it has 180,600 miles.

On September 30, my '88 GTA 5.7 ran 14.246 at 96.36 at Beech Bend, KY. Fastest speed was 97.40 (14.361). 60 ft times ranged from 2.072 to 2.16. Ran six 'real' runs. The slowest had my 15 year old, 170 pound nephew with me (his first time in something other than a beater or his grandma's Honda--I think he liked it--he finally quit grinning yesterday--lol). That time was a 14.5x at 94 to 95x (didn't keep that slip).

Well i guess im the slow poke of the group :-( My 88 gta ran 5.2 with my old motor stock... Then arfter that motor went, i put a 330 crate motor in and had headers, exhaust, chip, modified maf sensor....And for some strange reason i cant break 15.9 now.....Of course i am very mad about this considering i spent 2,500 on the motor to get more power when i could have spent 1,500 to get the stock one...Any ideas of why my time decreased so much? I think i might have an injector problem, becasue in the morning my car dosnt stay running unless i keep my foot on the gas, and if i just puch it, it makes 2 or three popping sounds and then takes offf..........PLEASE HELP A FELLOW GTA OWNER with a problem before i turn trader an bye a cobra........(just a joke) Sean

While they really don't count my bone stock TTA ran 13.68@100

My near stock TTA goes 11.99@113

My 89 GTA went 13.70@100/12.60@108 with old motor/NOS.

With new(now removed)motor went 10.91@123.48/10.21@132.25 with new motor/NOS

With upcoming V6 I'm looking for 9's

Later,
Steve

Ok, just got back from the track with a 14.70 little bit better than before. Im happy with what my car doing. With 181,000 miles on it, that is impressive to me.
next mod for it will be headers. anyone got any ideas on how much faster that would make it?

Sounds like the timing is off, too much fuel, or you have a vacuum leak. The computer looks for a 14.7 air/fuel ratio and for the timing to be about 36-38 total degrees. The stock 22lb injectors will support about 380h.p.. If you are running 30 or 36lb injectors, you are loading it up. If you have aftermarket intake runners and your car is equiped with a 9th injector for cold starts, check that the injector is seated properly into the runner. Some of the runners have too much material there and the injector does not seat squarely and causes a vacuum leak. Make sure that you are running with at least 40 psi of fuel pressure. Anything less and the fuel is not atomized any longer and forms droplets. I would really start with your timing though, it needs to be right on the money!!

Come to think of it, the guy that timed my car only did it by ear, I should have thought of that a long time ago.. Ill take it to the dealer to have it timed properly...Thanks

I just got a time of 15.06 @ 92.637 last night with my stock 90 5.7L GTA. Unfortunately, I also got my worst time of 15.89 @ 93.777. I'm still new to drag racing and it seems I can't get a consistent start. Both times I didn't take my foot off the brake and touch the accelerator until the 2nd yellow light. Do most of you rev the engine a little before taking off? I've tried that method too and have also gotten inconsistent (and slower) times. Thanks.

I usualy hold the brake and give it a little gas, just to have the rpms up a little bit, it gives me a better launch, but you have to watch, because if you give it to much gas to wear you tires almost start to spin, as soon as the light turns green and you let off the brake your tires will just go up in smoke.... at least thats what happens to me, and i have 255/50's BFG

Just got back from Beech Bend, KY. New time is now 14.069 at 99.56 mph with a 2.026 sixty foot time and a 8.984 1/8 mile at 76.92 mph. Tried a couple of different things, but the biggest difference was when I removed the charcoal canister to allow more air into the air filter cannister. Picked up .12 on just that mod. Air temp was about 7-10 degrees cooler than the previous best in late September. By the way, digital dashes SUCK when trying to shift manually an automatic. Dropped to a 14.32 at 96.78. Later I might post how I ran 140 through the traps.
