hey everyone,

I met somebody that wants to sell me a engine out of a firebird, I dont know if it was from a Firebird or camaro or corvette, But its not in the car anymore, and he told me to make him a offer on it.. He said its got about 100,000 plus miles on it and its a tuned port injection motor. it looks like its been cleaned up and i cant see any leaks anywhere.. I have two concerns,

One, hes pretty honest about the miles, he could of lied and said 20,000 miles on it and i would of believed it, its really clean, but i would of taken it apart and seen its high mileage insides.. what should i offer him for the engine, i want to buy it for a future project other then my gta.

two, is there any way i can tell if its been stolen??.. like i said its not in the car it came from anymore, its on a engine stand in his shed. is there any vin number stampings on a 1985 to 1992 tuned port 350 i could find and maybe run a carfax on it or something?.. im very concerned because a friend of mine bought a honda motor years ago and it turned out to be stolen and long story short, he was out of alot of money, and his car.. so is there a vin stamping on the engine i can find on the block?.. if there isnt one, and i offer him the right price i am going to ask for a detailed reciept for the engine.. I think right then and there when i ask for a detailed reciept id be able to feel out weather or not its stolen by his actions and willing to do that for me or not...

so, do they have a vin on the engine block somewhere?

Assuming it came out of a Firebird, engine V.I.N.'s for codes "E", "F" and "8" are located on the passenger side between the water pump housing and the cylinder head.

The valve Covers look different, the then runners look fatter on this engine.. Didnt the 350 and 305 have different patter valve covers?

Well if it a 8 stamped on it its the 350. and if its stolen which is probaly very unlikely IF u feel the seller has angle hes working trying u not to catch!!! But i would be more concerned bout it being a 350 than stolen!! Just my.02

I checked it out, its a 350, and hes showed me the car to came from, its not from a GTA but it was from a camaro that a tree had fell ontop of it.. i trust this guy is legit, and Im buying the engine.

Ill tell you something that's really cool, I looked at the Odometer on that squished camaro and it read 32,000 miles
