1987 GTA w/ a 5.7L and notice the interior and yes I ck'd the RPO's, and what was funny about this car was when we went to get more keys made for it, well, they were not on file with GM and according to a buddy of mine he tells me that at the GM plant in Doraville,Ga the exec's used to order cars and then when it came time to turn them in they would go back on weekends afterwards and get keys cut and drive them off of the lot and so to stop this the VIN# were wiped off of GM's record for key codes. Not sure if its true or not but still kinda weird.

Great looking car.... I too like the red interior. It was available in 1987 only and also only on that particular exterior color, Flame Red Metallic.

Interesting story about the keys too....

Yeah, I wish I coulda kept it, it was really different. It had motor trouble and need to be rebuilt. I had a broken ring. :( on one of the cylinders. Plus at that time I just couldnt afford to do that and also maintain my car as well. So, since it was my wifes I ogt her another little car and she seemed to like it better. I was a little Cavalier.

I guess I dont know, thats just what he told me. Not sure how much truth there was to it, but I do know the key codes were not in GM's data base. That much I do know.

Huh, I didn't know that the red interior was a one year option. Gives me a little bit more appreciation for my car having it :P

Yes, the Carmine interior color was offered in 1987 and 1988 on the Firebird and Trans Am, but the GTA was 1987 only.

got a question, i have red with red interior. How many were made like that in 87 is this a rare car. I was thinking about going black. But if its rare I will keep it red

I am unsure but from what I have read on this site with everyone posting, the red exterior and red interior color is supposed to be rare, if perhaps the rarest. I personally feel my eyes are sunburned when looking at the photographs of all red, but if all red is rare, it should be something to keep and not change for a value purpose. If you change it, at least keep the original interiors so you could always change it back to original. I believe you will keep the value of the car if you do that. It will also cost you much more if you change it to leather black and then some day want to change it back but you no longer have the original parts. Go on e-bay and you will see that anything red interior is hard to find and when you can find it, it sells for a lot. Yumiko

72C -- Trim Combination, Carmine Cloth -- 1,167
72D -- Trim Combination, Carmine Cloth -- 1,537

Hi Cliff:

Interesting experience. I had the same one. I went to get an extra key cut for my GTA and the guy at the parts counter told me he couldn't find the proper key code for my VIN.

Best regards,

Gary.
