tyre pressures

hi everyone,
maybe a simple or silly question for some, but i was just curious what sort of tyre pressures some of you recommend for my 87gta.
some say go with placard on car and others with recommendation of tyres themselves.
have just replaced rear pirelli 235/50/16 with falken 245/50/16 and still have 225/50/16 on front. the tyre guys put 38psi in the new rears but just wondered what some of you thought and ran in your tyres on a gta body.
do you inflate for the tyres or the car.

I run 40 psi year round.

I'm running 37/38, according to my gauge. I say go with the tire manufacturer psi recommendation. The cars recommendation would only apply to the stock size and bran of tire, besides being a compromise between stiffness for handling, and softness for ride comfort.
