No! Just put in a LS1/6 speed, and still have good looking car. Don't sacrifice looks for speed.

Correct me if I'm wrong.... but couldn't you get an LS1 and a 6-speed in a Pontiac?

Don't leave the PMD faithful all together; buy yourself something cool.... like a '96 WS6 Ram Air T/A.

he'd have to get a 98+ car to get the ls1. definitely get a ram air TA or a formula if you're going ls1 car. ls1 camaros look like catfish...

The difference between the LS1 Camaro's and the LS1 T/Am's is the Camaro's LOOK like they are gonna come and kick your butt, however the T/Am's WILL come over and kick your butt!! :ha:

I should have seperated those comments better, Munson.... I'm with you on the LS1 availibility. I've got a good friend that has a '00 Z28.

I was trying (vaguely) to state that the early 4thGen WS6 cars are my favorites looks-wise with the second comment.

But by all means, get a Pontiac instead of a Chevy.

If I were you I would just go all out and get the best of the 4th gens. You know the 35th anniversary trans am WS-6.

There are always LS1 T/As on ls1tech for sale. But I also agree, I would do the LS1 swap if the deal falls through.

I rode in an L98 Trans Am, compared to my LT1 powered one, it was like putting the 305 against the 350.

The guys in my car club are trying to get me to do an LS1 swap, but it is a little out of my price range right now. For now...I'll just be happy to have my L98 running again.

what are the stats of hourse and tourqe of an lt1 compared to a l98?

The car ran 9.35 on street tires spinning through 1st and 2nd. If I could get it to hook up we're thinking mid 8's with the stock motor. I'm enjoying the combo in the third gen alot, plus the 24+ mpg doesn't hurt either.

for a little bit more, and a ton less work, you could put a procharger on your motor. my buddy just put a procharger on his girlfriends 350 camaro 3rd gen. it just dyno'd 341 rwhp and 426 rwtq. that's on a stock head, stock LTR 350 L98 motor. both of those #'s crush a stock ls1 motor. and just to throw another jab in there, that's only with 7 psi boost, they had the 12# pulley on and couldn't get it to even make that much.

True, but you still have an L98 with the TPI setup which is still a major chokepoint in those motors.

Stephen

All the more reason to keep the TPI! Swap for Vortec heads, port & polish match the TPI runners, and break 400hp...450hp , I bet!

Klortho

LT1 cam/port polish heads 400+, no add ons

Buddy with a 383 LT1, cam/heads and procharger, 500hp

both at the wheels.

L98's are a thing of the past.

yeah it is a major choke point. nobody can deny that fact at all. but that just proves that you can throw on some forced induction to a basically stock L98 motor and make great power. i'd personally throw on forced induction before doing a motor swap. Just think what her motor would make if they put on an hsr and good heads. i bet it'd make easy 450 to the tires. you could swap in an lt1 for a couple grand, an ls1 for about a grand more. or you could throw on a used supercharger setup for the same price and have that wow factor. you go to a show and say "yeah i swapped in an lt1 motor", most people are going to ask you what that is.

IMO, all of those are worthy of getting more speed. In the end it all depends on the wallet. ;) I myself was gonna do a LS1 swap BUT the pocket book said NO, :ha: so for me a stroker kit may be more reasonable. So in the end its not the combo but the amt of $$$$ you got. :BG:
