89 gta radio locked

the radio on my gta says locked.? how do i unlock it.? tried to start car today...battery was dead of course from sitting all winter..thanks....rob

Hmmm, I had one in my 91 when I bought it and it never done that. I have heard of it on the 4th gens but not 3rd's :confused:

Press and Hold the "Mute" button on the steering wheel radio controls. This is a Radio anti-theft device installed in 88-89 GTA's. If a thief were to steal your radio, it would be completely useless, unless he had the steering wheel radio controls to go with it.
