I found this car listed for sale and it appears to be a regular Trans Am but clearly has GTA seats in it. I thought that only GTA's had the special seats but that may not have been the case or this person has changed them out. They do however apprear to be original equipment but you never know. Just wondering .....

I am pretty sure all GTAs had the special seats as standard equipment which are very distinguishable from all the other Pontiac seats. I am pretty sure that the GTA had these seats as standard while the other Pontiacs had them only if you had special ordered them with that option. Personally, I have never ever seen a GTA with different seats. Only other reason may be because a previous owner changed the GTA seats with the more cheaper ones for whatever reason, broken, ruined, stolen, could not or would not spend the higher money on the more expensive GTA seats, etc. Yumiko

I know our style was available for 4th gens as well.
My GTA had it's seats swapped for standard 4th gen ones by a previous owner.

Yes they were an option. I had an 87 TA with Digital Dash, GTA seats and push button climate controls. Had almost all the GTA feautures but was just a TA loaded with options.

The fourth generation Trans Ams did have a similar seat as the GTA but it was somewhat different. The headrests were much different shape and the seat "back rest part" were a little bit thinner then the third generation GTA seats. I will look on ebay and show you what I am talking about. I know some of the differences because I am always on the lookout for parts that I could incorporate into my GTA from the other years of Trans Ams and I did spend some quality time looking at all these seats in person. The attached link below shows the fourth generation seats and you can clearly see the head rest difference, and the controls are different also. But photographs are sometimes deceiving and in this situation, it is very hard to tell about the back rest thickness as I had mentioned in the previous post. But I can tell you that the ones I looked at in person as my GTA was right next to it, I could clearly see that they were just a very little bit thinner compared to the ones that came in the third generation GTAs. Being on TGO, I've read from some long time members that the "Ultima" seats that are standard in GTAs could be had in Trans Ams or Formulas.

Is it just my eyes? Or does the left seat seem smaller?
If you look at the headrests, they both seem to be down, yet the left is shorter. Closer to the camera? Well, the bottom shorter is farther back, so the seat isn't closer.
Even the line between the bottom cushion and the back is closer to the camera, so that seat isn't sitting closer. It suggests the bottom cuchion is shorter in length.
Even the leather material/grain and color looks different...

Those seats do look off (one bigger than the other). Here's another pair listed on Ebay and they look fine.

Well, those confirm where the seats I tried in my car came from...a 4th gen set! I couldn't figure out the wiring, so I passed on them.
He still has them. Almost in perfect shape. I think I remember there was something about the leather coming out one of the plastic covers. Not much, and nothing to be cincerned about. I just coulsn't decipher the wiring since I didn't know where they came from, and never looked at a 4th gen diagram.

My T-Top car has seats out of a '95 Firebird. The cloth ones that look somewhat like GTA seats. One thing I have noticed is 4th gen cars must have lower floorpans in them as the 4th gen seat brackets are taller than 3rd. You sit up higher in the car when they are mounted in a 3rd gen even with the seat adjusted to its lowest level. They are nice seats but I like the sitting positions much better in the 3rd gen seats.
