Umm...not good. I put it in and it made the car load up. After that, I couldn't get the car to start again. Towed it into the mechanic because I was leaving the next morning for MN. They got the car started, tried it again and still didn't help much. Also found that my oil pump is basically shot because oil isn't getting to the heads like it's supposed to so therefore the motor isn't getting lubed correctly and now there is metal shavings in the oil and a knocking noise from the bottom end. I have run into a streak of extremely bad luck with my car lately. :(

Yeah Cliff...looks to be time for that new motor now. I hate not being able to drive my car. Especially after I just did all that work to it.

Ouch I sure hate to hear that. So are ya gonna freshin it up of get a crate, stroke it or what?

I don't know. If I go with a crate I have to find one that will work with the centerbolt heads our motor uses. That's why I was asking about the ZZ4 and stuff before. Now, I'm kind of torn on what I want to do...383...406...crate 350...stock 350 with go fast parts...I really don't know until I figure out what all of this is going to cost me. That'll determine on how fast I'm able to get my car back on the road.

Sorry about the triple posting....Dunno why it did that.
I noticed an error though...
Short Block L31 PN #12556121 - $1229.75
OR
GMPP Fast Burn (Vortec) Heads - PN #12464298 - $609.95 each/$1219.90 pair
then...
Scoggin-Dickey Vortec Head TPI Intake Base - PN #E3817-$439.95
LT4 HOT cam - PN # 24502586 - $192.95
L31 is the Vortec crate motor. The Vortec heads I listed, are the upgraded springs, higher lift cam versions, you could buy for a non-Vortec block.

IMO, I would do the stroker. If have to get another crank you might as well get a 383 one. New ones form Eagle cost the same. The you could get the Vortecs like mentioned above and get a custom cam from Comp or Crane or you could get hte TPiS ZZ9 cam. :BG:

The ZZ9? Never heard of that one Cliff.
Stephen...thanks for the info, but I just spent a boat load of money on induction parts so I'm going to be sticking with something that I can use my L98 heads with. I just bought a brand new Edelbrock baseplate and SLP runners so those will be going on top of whatever motor I choose. :D
I might have some good news...406 might just be the motor. I was up at the shop today picking up my rims that don't fit the car and was talking with the owner. He and I have been throwing a 406 around for the last two years. That's why it's a little higher on my list than the others. Anyway...he did some calling around and talked with the parts guy at Advance. Well he knows someone that has a 400 SBC with all of the internals they're selling for $900. He's going to bring it by the shop so the owner can take a look at it. If it's good then it's mine and 406 it is! I'll keep y'all posted.
I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that I can come across som good luck for once and get my car back on the road. :D

Here ya go.........
http://www.tpis.com/index.php?module=catalog_page&catalogPageNumber=147&catalogSubCategory=Cams-Hydraulic+Roller
I have heard and read nothin but good stuff about this cam. Its kins $$$$ but if all else fails get Comp Cams to do a special grind for ya. It will probably be cheaper.

I'll still need the 1.6 rollers for this came right? Or will I need something bigger? Also, what lifters and springs would you recommend for a 406, Cliff? Thanks for the help. :D

just some free advice..i have had a 350 a355 a 406 and 2 383strokers..forget the 406 they are problem motors ..thin cyl walls poor casting etc..use a 350 and stroke it to 383 etc..and the zz9 in a 406 will disappoint you ..i had one ..a 406 needs more cam than that..my gta has been its fastest with the 383..hope this helps..good luck..ps tpis cams are very good though..

I would go with just some good Comp Cam lifters and Beehive springs( they need to fit LT1's tough). Oh and the 1.6's will be fine.

i'd go with this cam from comp cams
08-306-8 230/244 .510/.540 .544/.576 112deg
or this cam from lingenfelter if they still make it. this cam would be badass if it had more duration.
74219 219/219 .525/.525 .560/.560 112deg
