Well guys, it's official. I'm deciding to put all of my performance parts up for sale on my GTA. The GTA itself will go on sale in the summertime. It's been a fun ride, but sadly, I'm going to be going over to the dark side and moving on to a Mk IV Toyota Supra. I'll start putting up a parts list in a few days to give everybody on here first crack. :(

At least I'm proud of the fact that my performance car roots started with the GTA. Maybe sometime in the future I'll get myself another one.

Wow, I am shocked because I know how much you were involved with your GTA over the past years.

Good luck with the Supra. I liked the 1984 Supra during the time I was in high school. But I really did not like the body style of the late 1980s Supra, that car was the one I was considering to purchase but instead I liked the GTA much more better. Perhaps that year of Supra was not that glamorous. But The last year of them was nice, I think it was 2002 but I could be wrong, I would have to research it. I see one in my neighborhood recently, and every so often the guy has the hood of it open and when I drive by I slow down to see what is under the hood. It has a turbo on it. They are good on gas and produce a lot of power for the small size of engine. I think the biggest engine in them is six cylinders, again maybe I am wrong. I know that my friends in college had a brand new Lexus SL500 that had a eight cylinder engine and that was in the early 1990s, back then nothing much from Japan had engines with that many cylinders.

All the best with your move from GTA to the other (dark) side. It was a pleasure reading your posts and taking note on what you were up to in regards to GTA work. Yumiko

And some day in years from now if you decide to get another GTA, you will be the type of buyer who will pay top dollars because you have that special past in your heart for one of these cars.

Sorry to hear that Fred, I have considered doing the same thing too. I know how hard it is but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I might be putting mine up for sale at the end of the year, it hurts but just have to move on. Good luck.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Yeah, it was a hard decision. The fact of the matter is, if I could keep my GTA, I would. In a perfect world, I'd have my daily driver, the Supra and the GTA. Unfortunately, I'm hoping to enter the military and get a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the USAF and hopefully secure the much coveted pilot training slot. During that transition, I can only afford to have one car as I'll be away in training for the good part of a year as I go through OTS and hopefully basic flight so that one car will be my daily driver. When I finally complete training, is when I buy a Supra.

Now why a Supra? Simple... 800hp streetable and 25mpg... not to mention it already has the six speed I want... and also, to a lesser extent, the girls in the import world are a very good selling point... I was in FL on vacation and test drove my cousin's 600 rwhp Supra... and quite frankly, I was just impressed beyond all belief. I honestly believe this is the perfect all around car to embarass the high dollar exotics out there.

As for the T-RAM, I have two. One will go for sale. The one on the Grey GTA now, I'll be keeping to myself as a momento... and also as a "just in case" part for a future build. :D When the GTA goes up for sale, It will be returned mostly to stock as quite frankly, I can sell the parts on it now for much more than I can make when I sell the whole car.

What was the last year that they made the Supra? Last night I said 2002, but I think I am getting confused with the Trans Am. Now that I think more about it, it may have been 1998. Yumiko

Just a prediction but I think that you will miss your GTA greatly. Once you settle down (which we all eventually do) your will focus will change and your GTA passion will reignite. I am not sure that anyone will actually ever "fall out of love" with these cars. Once they are in your soul ... they are there for good.

I say buy the Supra, get it out of your system .... find one of your "import girls" .... marry her and then convert her back over to the USA side when you purchase your next GTA. By this time you will have found bliss, retire and pass along your GTA passion to the next generation.

How's that for a happy ending?

Oh and good luck on that. I hope it works out for you. I used to be in the AF and miss it terribly. What kinda pilot are you going to go for?

Yumiko, the Mk IV Supras were built between 1993 and 1998. The one I'm looking at right now is a totally stock 97 twin turbo with targa top and 6-speed tranny. Just the way I like it as I already have plans for it...

I'm still selling my parts, but I may have hope to keep the GTA if my uncle agrees to hold it for me while I'm away. If not, it's gonna find a new home. :(

Cliff, I'm trying to go for fighters like everybody else... My dream is to fly the F-15E. But honestly, I'll be happy enough to fly cargo if they let me. I'll even take a glider if that's all they have. Hell, I'll be happy enough just to make it into flight school. Beggars can't be choosers. I just want to serve my country while doing something that I love to do anyway. I already have my private pilot's lisence so my PCSM score should be good if I don't totally screw up the AFOQT and TBAS.

Wow Fred, that is great that you have your pilot license. I never knew that you had one. I have also been studying for that and taking some flight lessons too. What has really surprised me the most about it is when I opened up that Jeppessen Private Pilot Handbook and started to study, I was so surprised at all of the stuff that there is to learn in regards to flying. I have read the book once and I am on my second time. I want to read it about three times before I take the actual written test. My instructor told me that the solo flight test is the easy part, it is the written test that is the hardest part. The FAR/AIM is not easy for me though. It is sort of challenging to study and remember that one, perhaps because some of the rules and regulations change each year.

It is strange how all this information that I read just stays in my mind, not sure if it is because I am more mature now then when I was in college. In college, I would have to study for hours and hours and put so much effort into remembering everything. But now with this pilot study, I read it or see it on a navigational chart and it stays with me, it is like magic and I only need to read/see it once and I can totally remember and recall it. Just wanted to share with you my new experiences in something that we both have in common besides the GTA as we both have one of those also. Yumiko

Well, this is not a GTA sort of thing, but since one of our valued members (Fred) is leaving us for a Supra, I wanted to post this. My friend who is a mechanic in Japan sent to me this link in his e-mail. He tells me that the car used is a Supra, not sure if this is correct because you really do not see much of it. The vehicles that this car is passing, they are going in the same direction as the Supra just so you know. This is video taped on one of the longest bridges in Japan just so you know what type of road this is. I hope you enjoy this video Fred, afterall, this is the model of car that you are getting involved with. Yumiko

Note: Make sure the volume is sort of lowered on your speakers because it is sort of loud the guy talking.

It's good to see other people interested in aviation on here. I am also working on my PPL.

Sad to see you're letting the GTA go. Give the Supra a shot and if you end up not liking it you can always buy another GTA.

Hey Yumiko, what was he saying and did he say how fast he went?

That looks to be about 200+kph easy. Also the roads there look to be immaculate. I dont think you'd find a stretch of pavement like that here in Canada...

Suicide driver is the correct title .... that's just crazy!

I guess I am a wimp but I couldn't even imagine driving the top speed of my Corvette which is like 160mph. I say get your speed thrills from a plane and not the ground unless you are in Nascar.

Fred ... you may need to ask for some prayers with a car that fast. Good luck man!

What does an 800 hp Supra and 400 HP supra have in common?

13 sec time slip.

a local racer around here had one of those supra's. it only took him another 20k or so after he bought the car to get it to 1000 hp... it wasn't very streetable either. he blew apart a whole bunch of stock parts at 600 whp, and had to upgrade everything. i can post some pics and links to vids if you'd like. let me know what you have for sale fred, i'm looking for a bunch of new parts for my GTA.

Well talks about that the speed is over 330 km/h. I contacted my friend a little bit ago (I was away flying most of the day). Apparently this driver has a nick name "Smokey." Also another longer video which shows more of the outside of the cars. One of his Supras is midnight blue, and the other one is gold which he brings to other countries, as you will see in this longer video. If you watch it "Smokey" gets arrested in Britain for speeding. It is funny what the police say if you watch it.

Actually, I am very content with my GTA. I do not need to race it around and do crazy stuff like what that Smokey does with his Supras. My GTA may not be like this Supra, but.....I can still get a speeding ticket in my stock GTA. I am just a relaxing taking it easy driver now, no hurry or worries in the world, I am enjoying myself, my life and driving in my GTA listening to my favorite songs on my radio. I took it for a short drive this morning on my way to the airport. It was so nice to drive it for the first time in about six or seven months, even though I run it every weekend or so. I washed it off because it was covered in a light layer of dust and I went to the gas station and put in some gas for it. I learned something recently. Airplanes are never left without a fuel tank of gas for very long. This is because an empty gas tank will produce condensation inside of it. The same thing applies to car gas tanks. If your gas tank is always empty most of the time, condensation will build up and two things will occur, bad performance from the water in the gas, and rusting of the internal gas tank which will create bad particles into the gas and again, bad performance. So I filled up my GTA gas tank and shall store it like that from now on with full tank. Yumiko

Enjoy the video, I laugh when the police talk to him because it is funny what they say.
