Why do 90% of everybody here not have their city listed? On the left side of the posts in threads, it lists the city if you bothered to fill it out in your profile.

Yet, looking through classified, I see posts of "Where are you located?" even by people why don't have it listed themselves.

I just feel like some of the basic information should be required for registration. It's not like your physical address is being asked for. Just the city...

I guess they may feel like I do. Its no biggie. Or they wanna personalize it a little more than with just city and state( thats why I did it)

I like my personalized version better. :D Besides, I'm in the military and I'm not always going to be living in NC.

It just strikes me odd that people post things for sell, yet have nothing saying where they are at, and that is generally the first question. I guess that the part that srikes me as the oddest.

It just feels more friendly if everyone knew where everybody was. It's not like we're gonna come steal your car, with only a city listed. Even a state would make this group feel a little "tighter".

strc09---Your "Displaced Texan" seems perfectly fine to me, even with your location is listed. It makes sense! ;)

Now I can agree with that one, lol. I f have seen on alot of boards where someone will post an item for sale and no location, go figure.

I understand what your sayin but we are all pretty spread out. And as far as friendly, well if we were all any friendlier we'd be family. .lol ;) j/k but, I hope you understand what I am a sayin.

We are family...the GTA family! Not Firebird, not Trans Am, not TTA, not RS, not Z28...nothing wrong with the other 3rd gens at all! We're here on a more specific desire, that's all.

I didn't mean to come off negative, if anyone took me that way. I find our locations to have 2 meanings...

1. To see how far spread out we are...
2. You might find somebody next door, to turn wrenches with!

It's all good though.

I am unsure exactly what you mean but there is a few members here who own the TTA. Yumiko

I think they know( or at least I hope) they know what he means. I know I do.

I meant...

I'm not being "snobbish", saying that the GTAs are superior to other 3rd gens. We all know our GTA love brought us here. We are family, in that we share the same love for our specific cars.

I know, "technically", the TTA is a GTA. You just don't find very many non-TTA owners on a TTA specific site. They can benefit from being here, whereas a "normal" GTA owner wouldn't benefit a whole lot from being on a TTA site.

One of my good friends has a TTA. It's 1 of 187 without the overhead console, and it never got it's door decals put on. I do vinyl work, and have been helping him with repro making some on magnetics for his car. It preserves his originals, and allows him to put them on and take them off when desired.

But there are a few members out here as well with both GTA's & TTA's....... I personally can say that I have benefitted from both the TTA Specific sites and the Sourcepage as well with all of my 3rd Gens...... TTA's and GTA's ( or should it have been TGTA, cause they really are Turbo GTA's )are subject to alot of the same problems and quirks...... even though they have a different powertrain they are still the same car, even if no-one wants to admit it. I agree completely with making a site as friendly as possible but we must not lose site of the big picture.... We are all playing with the same cars whether it be a GTA, TTA, Trans Am, Formula or a Firebird. They just possess different options, they are all Firebirds. As to what car is superior is just depending on the eye of the beholder. Each car is special in its own right to its place in the automotive world and the owner.

I didn't wanna turn this into a debate over 3rd gen superiority or anything.

I was just curious as to why people leave out their locations? As I said...People post classifieds, but give no indication where they/the part or car is. That's all. Some people prefer local, rather than going nationwide to get the part or car they want.

There is a reality that we are talking on the internet here. When I first joined the Sourcepage I was relatively new to the "forum world." It wasn't a week after I joined this very site that I was getting PM's from a female member here. It started as car talk and quickly led to asking too many questions like .... where in GA do you live? What do you do for a living? Are you married? .... You get the idea.

For me personally, most everyone that I talk to on a regular basis around here will pick up in conversation where I live and bits of what I do .... but I don't care to broadcast it to the rest of the internet world. There are people that will try to find out about you off of street names or even plates numbers or simply your full name. There are some strange folks out there and the less personal information you put out ... the smarter you are. IMO

Of course. Those are simple precautions everyone should follow. I certainly never said we could discole our hohme addresses.

I sell a lot of stuff on craigslist...but I never have anyone come to my house for pick up. I only meet in parking lots that have a good amount of traffic. Not behihnd buildings hidden, etc.

You have Georgia listed. That's cool. It's up to you to divulge more info, of course.

I guess the biggest one that gets to me is thhe sell ads, but with no indication of where. Especially big things like car parts, or whole cars. Chances are, nobody in California is going to buy a Florida car, but the Florida seller doesn't indicate where they are.

Maybe its just me...Dunno...

I am so glad that Darrell mentioned those things in his post. I closed my account with myspace because it was so rediculous all these guys trying to get all this information from me so they could meet me somewhere. There are so many creeps and strange people out there, both women and men. And recently I read about a young guy who was killed because he got involved with a love triangle on myspace. So it is really happening, not just something a paranoid person is speculating about.

I like the sourcepage because it is a place I can participate in the forum and no one ever hassles me over providing more personal information to them about myself, just information about the GTA which is why I am here. If I was going to buy something on this site, I would ask the seller where he or she is located at the time I am interested in the item for sale. I would not hassle members who did not list their city just for the sake that maybe they may be selling something some day. Yumiko

Darrell and Yumiko both male good points. I havent thought of that. But it makes perfectly good since. I know a while back on a 4wd website. There was a guy who posted this other guy had ripped him off. Several days later and many, many pages later they had is home addy his school yr book pics, his job, where his dad worked, and you get my point. They even went as far as posting the last 4 of his ssn. YEah, they got pretty viscous. But, that jsut goes to show you what can happen.

Well, apparently I'm nnot getting my point across. I never suggested anything more than a home city. That's it. Nothing more. I listed I live in Austin, Texas. Other than you pretty much know my name, good luck finding out anything else.

I'm not in a phone book, the pics of my car don't have y license plate visible.

It's up to everyone to safe guard their info in thhe end. I was just curious why nobody seems to be proud of their location, thats all.

To each their own!

You have made your point Stephen, you question why not everyone posts their city and this is important to you for your reasons.

I am glad that Darrell never met up with that woman, you never know what someones intentions or motivations are, remember there are also female carjackers and females who date carjackers and activily participate in the crime. This person may have just wanted to steal his GTA and it could have costed him his GTA or worse a bullet. You never know and it is best that we do not take the gamble. Unfortunately, when a crime has been commited, to unsolve the crime, many times it is a trail of how someone knows someone. Many times the person who committed the crime knows the person. The internet is a great way criminals can break the trail. It is much harder for authorities to track a criminal through computer interaction then say if the person who commited the crime was a neighbor, co-worker, friend, relative, etc. The internet is fun, but there are many potential dangers as well. Most of the time, it is women and parents of young children who are the only ones who take the threat very seriously. I take it seriously. Now if you see something you want to purchase from a member, by all means, you will be then entitled to their location. And then if they do not want to provide that, do not do the transaction. It is very simple. And yes, many people get shot and robbed while responding to craiglist meeting places, regardless of how busy the area of meeting is. Yumiko

Stephen, unfortunately its not that simple. There's people out there that look for anything. I know what you are saying and I understand. I personally think its a good topic. hth Oh and Yumiko is right.
