Like the subject line says. I was driving on the FDR drive in Manhattan in my Civic today when I saw a brand new Blue GTO. I noticed something wierd about it's exhaust piping though since the pipe was hanging low. So I drove up a little closer and noticed, that wasn't a pipe, but a wastegate!!! Dumping right into atmosphere too. Then he gave it some gas and I heard the beautiful rumble of the V8 AND a really loud turbo whine. That was sweet. He burned out the tires doing 60 mph!!!
I don't know if the wastegate dumping into the atmosphere like that is legal here in NYC, but if he can get away with it, I sure as hell am gonna try it too!!

Yeah, a lot of people make fun of the remote mount turbo systems, but man, that GTO was FAST. I think I know what my next project for the GTA will be... :sly:

Hey Fred,
I'm surprised this topic slipped by. I saw a TV show where they tested the STS Turbo Kit and it did give the engine a gain in the entire power band. There really wasn't a lag like most people think would be. The main advantage I see is the fact that the engine compartment remains uncluttered. On the downside, I don't care for the filter location. In heavy rain I can see it getting soaked and restricting the air in a big way. Other than that that it is a nice system.
Lingenfelter makes a turbo kit for the Corvette that mount down low by the normal location of the collector. The Vette does well over 500HP with that kit. So the location of the turbo outside of the engine compartment is a better idea since it keeps the compartment cooler, and cooler means more power.
