I have been getting photos from a fellow now (several times, in fact) trying to get his car posted to the Page. Photos reveal that the car is not really a GTA, but I feel that the fellow is not going to be "receptive" to my assessment of that fact. After five emails from him today alone, I sent this email reply a little bit ago....
"Larry, I don't know what to tell you.... but I don't like where the discussion is going.
An authentic title will not tell you if the car is a GTA. Neither of my two cars' title has that notation on it.... they don't even say "Trans Am" on them.... only "Firebird". Other documentation is required to ascertain the actual identity of a GTA.
If your car says that on the title and on the inside of the door, that is highly suspect... as GTAs came with no such identification from the factory. Even my red car's original MSO said "Firebird Trans Am" only....
Some of the obvious physical discrepancies I see are:
1) the car you sent me pictures of does not have the AQ9 GTA-standard articulating bucket seats.
2) the car has a carmine red interior which was not offered with the GTA option in 1988.... it was offered on the base Trans Am only.
3) the car does not have the 1988-specific steering wheel with included audio controls.
4) the car does not have the power mirror controls on the console.... which were standard on GTA models.
5) the car does have the fender vents on the lower front fenders which were not used on GTAs.... they were used on the base Trans Am only.
Does your car still have the RPO sticker inside the console glovebox? If so, look at it. I fear that you have a car that somebody put GTA emblems on in order to try to improve their selling chances.... a common occurrence nowadays. It appears that none of the real identifying "marks" of a GTA are present in your car.
Lastly, yes, the GTA was indeed a Trans Am option.
But this particular webpage relates to GTAs alone.... I can't tell you how many other people I have told the same thing I'm telling you here... if I ever break down and post or feature one single base Trans Am, then I have no longer have an option not to do the same for every one that is submitted to me. There's no way I can do that.... and stay true to the GTA owners, which are the focus in the first place. There are plenty of other websites that cater to all F-bodies, both Pontiac and Chevrolet.
I apologize if my position is not understandable to you.

Is that too harsh of an assessment in your judgment? I don't want to hack the fellow off, but I have to get across that his car is not eligible for The Source Page.... Whadda' ya think?
