The aero wing spoiler on my 89 gta is shot. Can I use a spoiler from another 3rd gen firebird and will it bolt right up to the deck lid and accomidate my 3rd brake light?

Yeah, you can, but why? The stock spoilers on thirdgens suck because they're made out of rubber. The replacement one off another thirdgen will end up splitting in the future too. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a fiberglass piece that's not going to split on you. Several companies out there make them as direct fit for thirdgens. You'll just need to paint it.

I really don't want to spend $400-$500 and a normal spoiler is fine with me. Are they also made of rubber?

As far as i know all the factory spoilers are rubber... and mine was ok.. but now it's starting to crack and peal.... ugh... if its not one thing it's another

Better to spend $500 one time than spend $200 more or less each time your factory spoiler comes apart. Not to mention the pain in the ass of having them painted to match anyway.
One of the perks of having a 91. We got the fiberglass spoilers from the factory. :chill:

I have one of the fiberglass spoilers on my red GTA, and it's the only way to go.... perfect fit, fantastic quality. There's nothing like seeing that straight spoiler line down along the sides of the rear hatch glass instead of seeing the original spoiler bow out toward the edges of the glass. I'll be glad to send you some photos of it on my car if you like.
Unless you can find a pristine OEM aero spoiler, you are just going to change them and keep changing them. You'll even change out the pristine one eventually if it is exposed to any weather at all. That is "the nature of the beast".... they were a bad design originally. Plus, for the most part they cannot be successfully repaired to last any period of time. The last time my original spoiler was repaired, it cracked again before I could get the car back home. However, it does look good now.... propped up against the wall out in my shop next to my spare Notchback decklid.... :)
The standard Firebird flat spoiler will not interchange unless you don't care about having a lot of holes in your decklid to plug and repair....
This is one of those instances where you can simply pay now and have a one-time fix, or pay for an original spoiler.... and keep on paying and paying in the future.
Just my $.02....

also.. if you use the flat spoiler, you'll have the male clips sticking out around the hatch glass

Thanks for the advice. I really prefer the look of the flat spoiler and will keep thinking and looking. How could I remove the clips from around the window?

Can you reccomend a source for the fiberglass spoiler and will it attach to the existing brackets around the deck glass or do I have to modify them? Thanks Fred

Go the Fibreglass.. I also have one now on my TTA and its perfect.. makes the rear hatch spring up a bit faster ... and at the same time not as easy to slam down accidently. You could try also some time installing struts make for the pressure of hatches that did NOT have a spoiler.. and then the release rise would be more graduated.
